Overview

When you buy a new kitchen, you have the choice between different types. The most important types of kitchen include the fitted kitchen (separate kitchen), the small kitchen or single kitchen, the classic kitchen, the eat-in kitchen and the open-plan kitchen. With so much variety, the choice is not easy. In addition, every flat and every house is individual and has its own requirements when it comes to kitchen planning. For example, a U-shaped kitchen needs to be planned differently to an L-shaped kitchen. Depending on which variant you decide on and how the respective kitchen shape should turn out, it is important to pay attention to special details when furnishing. Firstly, think about how you want to use your kitchen. Accordingly, there are various kitchens to choose from. Do you love cooking in a cosy atmosphere? Then a kitchen with a cooking island is a good choice. This offers you enough space for a dining area and the opportunity to organise small cooking evenings. If you have a separate dining room, you can choose a U-shaped kitchen. You don't necessarily need a dining area in your kitchen. And if you only cook from time to time, a small kitchen unit is a good choice. If you prefer to cook in peace and quiet, a fitted kitchen is the ideal solution. It is separate and self-contained. In contrast to the classic kitchen, the fitted kitchen is customised to fit into the kitchen space in order to create a kitchen front that fills the room. The focus here is on convenience, storage space and optimum utilisation of space.

More individuality

Kitchen products from Villeroy & Boch

Villeroy & Boch gives you even more individuality for your dream kitchen with its large selection of kitchen utensils. The tastefully designed kitchen taps, ceramic sinks and other accessories are characterised by a high degree of adaptability and perfectly complement your other kitchen equipment.

Small kitchen

A single household has different requirements for a kitchen than a family. The cooking facilities often have to be integrated into a small room. The single-person kitchen is very popular here. The aim is to make optimum use of the space. The same applies to the galley kitchen. Only the essentials are accommodated in this mini kitchen. There is no worktop.

Open-plan kitchen and kitchen diner

Chatting with family members or friends while cooking? That's no problem with an open-plan kitchen. The eat-in kitchen and the open-plan kitchen are kitchen types that combine living, cooking and eating. If socialising and communication while cooking are more important to you than kitchen appliances and used cookware that are not visible to everyone, the eat-in kitchen is a practical and modern kitchen solution.

Fitted kitchen

If you prefer to cook in peace and quiet, a fitted kitchen is the ideal solution. It is separate and self-contained. In contrast to the classic kitchen, the fitted kitchen is customised to fit into the kitchen space in order to create a kitchen front that fills the room. The focus here is on convenience, storage space and optimum utilisation of space.

Classic kitchen

The classic kitchen is more of a style than a type of kitchen. Smooth or slightly textured, plain fronts dominate the picture here. The use of wood and the harmonious mix of materials are typical of this kitchen. A classic kitchen combines timeless elegance with a high degree of functionality.

Kitchen moulds

Before you choose a new kitchen, it is also important to consider which kitchen shape is suitable for your space.

L-shaped kitchen

An L-shaped kitchen can be integrated into both a closed and an open-plan room. L-shaped kitchens are made up of two kitchen units. These are positioned at right angles to each other. This is why they are also called corner kitchens or corner kitchens. This is the classic fitted kitchen that can be realised in almost all layouts. They are available in many different designs. An L-shape is also suitable for an open-plan kitchen. Here it becomes an elegant room divider in no time at all. When planning your kitchen, remember to utilise the corners intelligently.

Kitchen unit

Do you want to modernise your kitchen but don't want to spend a fortune? Then the kitchen unit with appliances is an affordable alternative. It is also a good solution if you only have a small space available for the kitchen. A kitchen unit with electrical appliances is also ideal for your first home, as the kitchen can be fully equipped even on a small budget. However, the room should be suitable for this. The kitchen unit requires a long wall with sockets, a connection for the electric cooker and a water connection. Individual wishes can certainly be realised with this type of kitchen, but can significantly increase the price.

Kitchen with cooking island

The kitchen with a cooking island is very modern. A cooking island is a frequently used component of the kitchen-cum-living room. It is usually positioned so that the chef can look towards the dining table when preparing food. An extractor bonnet is usually installed above the cooking island. Another option is to place the cooking island in front of a window. This can then be used for ventilation while cooking. Kitchens with cooking islands fit into both L-shaped and U-shaped kitchens as well as G-shaped kitchens. They can be accessed from all sides, offering great freedom of movement in the kitchen and promoting a sense of community.

U-shaped kitchen

Do you have a large room available for the kitchen? Then a U-shaped kitchen may be the right option for you. This is ideal for square rooms and large kitchens. U-shaped kitchens are modern and offer plenty of storage space. The kitchen units can have different lengths and shapes: short legs, long legs or asymmetrical legs, one side free-standing in the room or all cabinet sides against one wall. This also depends on the layout of the room in question. It is important that there is sufficient space between the individual units (at least two metres) so that you can move around the kitchen easily.
