Authentic Avantgarde Collection: New décors for exquisite gift series

Villeroy & Boch developed the Authentic Avantgarde Collection as a high quality gift series that takes traditional values and sets them in a contemporary stylistic context. The traditional and modern have thus been successfully brought together to create ceramic culture at the highest level. The décors of the Authentic Avantgarde Collection also pay homage to Villeroy & Boch’s history, drawing inspiration from the Mettlacher Platten, valuable tiles produced by Villeroy & Boch in the 19th and 20th centuries that enjoyed unprecedented worldwide success.

These tiles are now experiencing an unusual comeback in a new tableware context. The original graphics have been extracted from the tiles and reinterpreted on espresso cups and saucers and two differently sized trays in premium bone porcelain. The shape of the Authentic Avantgarde Collection cups is also historical, a classical straight form from the late 18th century named litron that continues to symbolise French culture, philosophy and fashion even today.

The litron shape has been adapted for the Authentic Avantgarde Collection, the classical handle being given a somewhat straighter and more modern touch. By contrast, the contours of the straight cups, the conspicuously high lip of the saucers and the square trays are very authentic. The depth of the saucers traditionally had a practical application: the coffee was poured from the cup into the saucer from which it was then drunk. The saucer was thus treated rather like a drinking bowl.

Last year Villeroy & Boch presented the décors Majestic Blue, Royal Red, Ceremonial Green and Imperial Purple, meeting with great success. The Authentic Avantgarde Collection is now to be extended with two new décors that match the colours of the existing designs but have a less expressive, rather more distinguished appearance. Luxurious Bordeaux combines dark red with rich brown, green and grey. Mystic Violet presents purple in a setting of blue and grey tones. The all-over symmetric décors of Luxurious Bordeaux and Mystic Violet give an extremely classical and elegant impression.

The Authentic Avantgarde Collection is a gift series that is perfect for all those with an affinity for contemporary style luxury. The opulent gold decoration underscores the quality of the entire collection.
