Our expertise in the fields of product design and interior design has played a central role throughout our company’s history. This expertise stems from the achievements of in-house designers in evolving the quintessential hallmarks of the Villeroy & Boch brand. Numerous internationally renowned designers such as van de Velde, Behrens and Olbrich have also been instrumental in evolving our design competence.
In the mid-1970s, Colani developed a bathroom for Villeroy & Boch whose various elements (tiles, washbasin, tap fittings, etc.) were coordinated in design – the first such bathroom to appear on the market. Beyond improving the aesthetics of the bathroom, this coordinated design concept actually revolutionised the market by transforming the bathroom from a functional facility into a living area in which to relax and indulge oneself.
A whole series of successful bathroom collections has been created in recent years by .molldesign from Schwäbisch Gmünd. In 2003, the renowned international designers Conran & Partners created a bathroom collection for Villeroy & Boch which also incorporates contemplative aspects. In the field of tableware, Paloma Picasso and Matteo Thun have developed ranges of a strikingly modern character inspired by organic forms. The current Kenzo collection sports the designer’s favourite motif of floral décors in conjunction with textile structures.
Products from all divisions of the company have received prestigious design awards such as the “red dot award: product design” from the Design Zentrum Nordrhein-Westfalen, the “good design” award from “The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design” or the “IF product design award” from International Forum Design.
