LIGHT TILE

Can the LED lights also be installed in the bath / shower?

The LED lights are dust-proof and water-tight (IP67). However, they are not designed for continuous use under water.

What is the wattage of the individual LEDs and what is their expected lifetime?

The individual LEDs are 0.3W. Under normal operating conditions, they can be expected to have a lifetime of up to 100,000 hours.

How many LEDs can be installed per tile?

The number depends on the tile format. However, from a tile size of 30x60cm, there is a max. of 2 LEDs per tile.

Can defective LEDs be replaced?

A defective LED can be replaced using the appropriate repair kit.

Do the LED supply lines have to be fed through the cable duct or can the cable be laid in the fresh adhesive when installing the tiles?

According to current VDE (Germany) guidelines, the supply lines have to be protected in a cable duct.

Can an LED chain be shortened?

The LED chain can be shortened. However, this must be carried out by a professional electrician. The cable ends must be insulated to make them water-tight.

Can the LEDs also be fitted in tiles of other manufacturers?

The locating ring required to install the LED in the tile is only fitted and supplied with the tiles themselves. Without the locating ring, the LEDs cannot be installed. Thus, the LIGHT TILE cannot be fitted in tiles of other manufacturers! ! !

Is the lighting system dimmable?

The transformer currently available for the LEDs is not designed to be dimmable.

Can anyone install the system?

Yes, this is a simple plug-in system and should be installed in accordance with national regulations.

Does the transformer have to be recessed in the ground, what is the required power supply?

Due to its dimensions (49x49x24mm), the transformer can be fitted in an electric flush box. If necessary, the transformer can also be installed directly behind the light switch. A special deep flush box is then required. The supply line then has to be fed in an installation tube from the flush box on the tile substrate. A 230V connection is required for the transformer.

Does the LED protrude on the reverse of the tile?

When used with the appropriate tile ranges, the compact design D=7.5mm guarantees that the LED light finishes flush with the reverse of the tile.

Will the entire light chain fail if the LED is defective?

If an LED is defective, the other LEDs in the chain will continue to be illuminated.

What is the required tile thickness for LED installation?

The LEDs are designed for a tile thickness from 7.5mm. They can be used for the following tile ranges (Villeroy & Boch): Beaufort, Bernina, Cardesio, Creative System New, Fire & Ice, Gate 56, Granifloor, Landscape, Marmorino Naturale, melrose, Pearl Glam, PA, Scenario, Scirocco, Scope, Septfontaines, Spectrum, West Coast, White Classic, Zoom.

In addition, other tile collections from our range can be requested as special production via the specialist trade.

Can several LED light chains be connected to a single transformer?

Several chains with a different numbers of lights can be connected to a transformer designed for a max. of 40 round or 20 square LEDs. Splitters, which are available as an accessory, are however required for this. The individual splitters can be connected in series.

What is the required distance between the centres of the LEDs?

The centres of the lights (cable length) should be approx. 1.25 m apart. As a certain amount of length is required to insert the LED into the tile covering, there should be a distance of < 110 cm between the centres of the LEDs.

How large do the holes in the tile have to be to accommodate the LED?

The size of the hole is approx. 40mm. However, Villeroy & Boch will make these holes. Villeroy & Boch also attaches the locating ring (necessary to attach the LED).

Can the cable duct be pressed into the tile adhesive at a later date and what is the required thickness of the adhesive?

The self-adhesive cable duct has to be fixed to the tile substrate before the tiles are actually installed, the LED supply lines have to be installed. When this work has been completed, the adhesive bed should be prepared using a notched trowel, notch size min. 10x10x10mm, at an angle of 70°.

Is it possible to use films to change the colour of the LEDs?

Using commercially-available self-adhesive films, it is possible to change the colour of the LEDs. However, Villeroy & Boch shall assume no liability for adhesion and abrasion.

How is the cable duct attached to the tile substrate?

The tile substrate has to be level, dry, clean and free from separating substances. The cable duct and the installation socket are self-adhesive and can be glued directly to the tile substrate.

What is the required distance between the centres of the LEDs?

The centres of the lights should be approx. 1.25 m apart. As a certain amount of length is required to insert the LED into the tile covering, there should be a distance of 90cm between the centres of the LEDs.

Is it possible to use LEDs that have been disconnected as replacement parts?

LEDs that have been disconnected professionally can be used to replace defective LEDs.

What are the dimensions of the cable duct?

The dimensions of the cable duct K15, art. no. 3916/001R are (WxHxL) 15 x 3 x 1180mm.

Can several LED light chains be connected to a single transformer?

Several chains with different numbers of lights can be connected to a transformer designed for a max. of 40 LEDs. To do so, the splitters available as an accessory have to be used. The individual splitters can be connected one after the other.

Can light chains of different colours be connected to a transformer?

The individual colours do not affect the technical properties of a light chain. Thus, LEDs different colours can be connected to a transformer.

Is it possible to shorten the LED chain cable?

All changes to electrical supply lines have to be performed by a professional electrician; they must be insulated to ensure that they are water-tight.

Is it possible to connect further lights at the end of an LED light chain?

It is not possible to connect further LEDs at the end of each LED light chain. Thus, when connecting several light chains to a transformer, the T-splitter (available as an accessory) has to be used to create further connection possibilities before the light chain.

Can the LEDs also be installed in other Villeroy & Boch ranges?

Installation is possible in other ranges on request, however, this depends on the tile thickness, which must be > 7.5 mm.

Is it possible to switch the LED chains individually?

Only those LED chains that are connected to a transformer can be switched.

What does LED mean?

Light emitting diode. A light emitting diode consists of several layers of semi-conductive material. If the diode is operated in the forward direction, light is generated in a thin layer, the active layer. Unlike a light bulb, which emits a continuous spectrum, a LED emits light in a certain colour. The colour of the light depends on the material used.
