Fascination ceramics –
New concepts in porcelain stoneware tiling with innovative designs
The material ceramic is fascinating to us mainly because of the versatile design opportunities it offers. Inspired by nature, and thanks to innovative technologies, new surfaces and colours, organic shapes and structures can now be created that may look familiar but are actually completely novel. Particularly tiles crafted from porcelain stoneware, that meet the highest standards in terms of material and design quality, offer a myriad of possible uses for personalised residential living. On floors and also increasingly on walls, porcelain stoneware offers an ideal basis for spatial concepts that raise bathrooms, but also living spaces to personal retreats of peace and tranquillity.
Villeroy & Boch is therefore continually expanding on its offerings in this sector and, in doing so, placing its focus on concept tiling with an aesthetic that fulfils every design and home furnishing desire. For 2010, porcelain stoneware lines have been developed that combine discriminating design with the advantages offered by a ceramic material such as ease of care and good environmental friendliness.
For instance, inspired by organic shapes and natural colours and structures, a design has been created for the new vilbostone porcelain stoneware tile concept One & Only that offers a look which is entirely unique and autonomous: an exciting blend of innovative surfaces and warm colours that has a shimmering metallic effect depending on how you view it. The designs in One & Only are delicately wrought and display an interplay between soft shapes and gently structured surfaces. With four decor themes, One & Only gives any space a sense of the modern and, at the same time, an irresistible, natural charm.
With Lavestido, Villeroy & Boch is defining a new type of living: with ceramic, generous in size and displaying a design that seems to have been taken directly from nature and yet is still both unique and innovative. In Lavestido, each tile is one-of-a-kind, a colourful game-piece with many facets. The new, velvety soft look of the velvetYstone surface gives the tile a touchable silky quality and also creates a subtle interplay between matt and glossy structures, and with it a sophisticatedly deep optical effect. With strong, natural tones, the Lavestido line of porcelain stoneware tiling is ideal for concepts in modernist spaces.
To take account of the continuing strength in the trend towards home furnishings displaying an original character, Villeroy & Boch has developed the vilbostone porcelain stoneware concepts Terra Incognita and X-Plane. The modern multi-colour design of Terra Incognita has been inspired by such raw, elemental materials as sand, stone, clay and concrete, all of which fascinate us with their simplicity and authenticity, and whose look and feel always remains warm, natural and true. Terra Incognita fuses modernism with the authentically natural look of a surface whose structures and colours gently meld into one another to create a purist effect in a space, in the natural sense of that term.
The design concept behind X-Plane picks up on the original characteristics of such materials as cement or stucco and makes use of the design opportunities offered by ceramic to create an entirely novel look: with a large size of 60 x 120 cm, delicate colour gradations and the homogeneity of effects so typical for porcelain stoneware, X-Plane possesses its own, warm aesthetic that is simply perfect for creative and personalised designs.
