Villeroy & Boch at Ambiente 2009: NewWave Caffè
NewWave Caffè Colours of Indonesia und Bali Inspiration –
Combining the trend themes of coffee and the exotic
NewWave Caffè Colours of Indonesia – That is the name for this year’s concept of the limited line for the successful series NewWave Caffè. With this new line Villeroy & Boch is enhancing the trendy ‘Colours of ...’ decor range of products, which has taken as its subject matter the various coffee regions - so far Africa and South America - of the world: Each of the four decors conveys the particular style of the areas selected with regard to the natural world, craftsmanship, culture and the native people. In so doing, the trend themes of coffee and the exotic are linked together. In perfect harmony with the mini-series NewWave Caffè Colours of Indonesia, but also conceived as an independent design for an interior setting with exotic flair, Villeroy & Boch has developed Bali Inspiration: The collection consists of sophisticated accessories and gift articles inspired by Bali, Island of the Gods and dream destination for so many.
Coffee culture in a tropical paradise
Why Indonesia? The answer is that high-grade types of coffee are cultivated in Indonesia, for example on Java, Bali and Sumatra. And what is more, the largest island nation in the world is considered to be a tropical paradise, with artistically-created temples and a gentle people, who have a strong affiliation to their gods and to nature. Villeroy & Boch has selected certain elements from this wealth of culture and transformed them into original NewWave Caffè décors and accessories. The result is a collection of exciting décors and forms, authentic materials and subtle, exotic colours, all of which give an intense sense of nature.
The new décors
The theme of nature is interpreted in the Bambu décor. Inspired by the bamboo typical to Indonesia and Thailand, the décor appears in various shades of green, spiced up with a warm rosé pink. The Batik décor stands for Indonesia’s craftsmanship. It is based on traditional patterns, which are created using the wax and tie-dying methods for Batik cloth. Merah, the Indonesian word for red, symbolizes the culture of the island nation. The highly expressive décor with stylized coffee beans reflects the intensity of exotic colours in different tones of red. The subject matter of the Tanah décor is the native people. It depicts the head of a woman, which calls to mind a Balinese temple dancer.
The NewWave Caffè range
The mini-series NewWave Caffè is available in a pure white finish or with various décors. There is a choice in each case of an espresso cup, a cappuccino mug, a mug with handle (in white also a modified version for left-handers), a café-au-lait cup and two matching party plates, all manufactured in fine china. There is also a latte macchiato mug made of glass with a metal handle. The most attractive feature of all the NewWave Caffè cups: the elegant, curved grip, which is ergonomically designed and pleasant to hold.
Bali Inspiration - Accessories in the mega trend of wellness and relaxation at home
The central idea running through Bali Inspiration was to incorporate the mega trend of wellness and relaxation at home into a product world which reflected South-East Asian rituals. The concept includes products made of different materials and decorative cultures.
The candles, available in two sizes in the colours papaya and lime, are designed in the form of wax lanterns with a pattern carved onto them. Once the tapered candle inside has burned down, it can be replaced by a tealight candle for continued use of the lantern. The food-safe wooden tray with base is also available in two sizes, the design bringing a Balinese temple column to mind. The large tray and the small serving dish can be used to make an exotic étagère. The new coffee jars made of porcelain, ideal for storing filter or espresso coffee, add a touch of colour to the home environment.
Bali Inspiration also offers tealight candle holders in various finishes: The exquisite Buddha tealight candle holder made of solid sandstone, available in two sizes, is designed in a simple rectangular form with an integrated head of Buddha, which has been reproduced with great thought to detail. Its form inspired by Balinese building tradition, the Cottage tealight candle holder made of biscuit porcelain is decorated with complex cutwork. The Pagoda tealight candle holder, also made of biscuit porcelain with cutwork, is designed as a three-piece pagoda. Each of the pieces can be decked out with tealights. If they are placed one above the other, the ensemble can also be used as a scented oil burner.
The sandstone incense stick holder is a typical Asian accessory. It is designed in the form of the frangipani temple flower with an opening in the middle to hold the incense stick.
One of the authentic materials used to make exotic decorative products is soapstone. It has been used for Bali Inspiration to make ornamental dishes in an attractive fish form. Available in two finishes, the dishes are ideal for storing keys or items of jewellery. The ornamental animals made of soapstone – monkey, turtle and gecko – have been minimally designed with a more pronounced roundness, giving them a rather playful, naïve charm. Depending on the motif, they are available in different sizes in dark brown with a discreet decoration painted in white. There are matching tealight candle holders in green and red, each decorated with a motif of animal drawings.
