A special relationship stretching over 245 years: The ties between Villeroy & Boch and the Grand Duchy in the tri-state region are just as important today as in the past.

The completely redesigned Museum of Ceramics in Mettlach was inaugurated ten years ago on 22 October 2002. Since that time the museum has been located in a former factory shed directly connected to the headquarters of Villeroy & Boch, the Old Abbey on the banks of the Saar. It is a popular and much visited attraction for those interested in the arts and for lovers of ceramics near and far.

What do art, nature and tiles have to do with each other? At Villeroy & Boch, a great deal, since artistic ambitions and commitment to the environment have always determined the corporate philosophy of the ceramics company. A wonderful example of how this can be combined in a unique product, is the limited series of tiles, "Living Planet", which is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary: created by the renowned artist, Stefan Szczesny, it is the manifest expression of a strong love of nature.
